|| Malcolm Heron
|| Jim Green
Only two boats competed in Tuesday evening's race at Forfar Sailing Club. In the absence of a race officer, it was agreed to run a 50-minute pursuit race, Malcolm Heron (GP14, crew Jennie Parkinson) giving Jim Green (Solo) a 45-second start.
The stiff westerly, punctuated by frequent gusts, challenged the Solo on the upwind legs, whilst allowing the GP14 to creep ever closer to it. Malcolm managed to overtake Jim in the third lap, helped by the wind's rising slightly, and held his lead until the final whistle, although Jim was still only 40 seconds behind him. An interesting feature of the race was that the course grew longer as the race went on, thanks to the higher level of the Loch after recent rain. The leeward mark decided to “weigh anchor” and slowly floated about 100 yards downwind in the 50 minutes! But it was a great night for sailors!
