|| Erwin Oosterhoorn
On Tuesday at Forfar Sailing Club, Jim Green and Tony Walker were contemplating some gardening work as they were the only two who had turned up to sail before seven o’clock. However, Murray Hadden and Erwin and Eoghan Oosterhoorn added themselves to the mix, turning their ideas to sailing instead.
And so, in the absence of a race officer, a pursuit race was set up. Tony and Jim set off in their Solos with Tony edging Jim up the first beat to maintain his slender lead over the entire course of the race. Erwin and Eoghan followed in their Enterprise with a 75 second gap and Murray in his Laser started 75 seconds beyond that.
There was a reasonable east south easterly wind which turned more easterly as the race went on. Erwin and Eoghan did not get off the start line as quickly as they would have liked and Murray overtook them on the first lap of the course. He then headed off in pursuit of Tony and Jim, marginally overtaking Jim by the end of the 50 minute race. First place went to Tony Walker, second was Murray, Jim third and Erwin and Eoghan fourth.
