The second race in the first Tuesday evening series got underway with four boats on the water. Tony Walker (Solo) made the best start closely followed by Tony Cook (Laser), making his return to competitive sailing after a year out. They were followed by Dave Smith (Firefly) and finally Jim Green and grandson (Club Wayfarer).
Tony W held onto his lead for the first two legs of the race despite being in a theoretically slower boat than Tony C - however by the second mark they were neck and neck. Tony C showed his rustiness by capsizing at the mark letting Tony W extend his lead again and letting Dave past. Jim remained a respectful distance behind.
Once Tony C got going again he quickly overhauled Dave and caught Tony W halfway through the second lap and then started to build a lead. The three boats were now in their expected positions on the water and the final result would depend on the handicaps of the boats. Jim and grandson were enjoying a fine sail and an impressive sunset.
At the end the first three boats were separated by 3 seconds on corrected time with the first two boats of Tony Walker and Dave Smith tying for first place and Tony Cook just three seconds a lap behind - the race would have been his by a good margin if he had not stopped for swim. Jim finished a relaxed fourth.
