Forfar Sailing Club's first race of the new season on Tuesday night had to be abandoned, due to unduly high winds.
So it was with mounting excitement that Thursday's lighter conditions inspired four helms to take to the Loch, with four different classes of dinghy, for a Pursuit race. David Smith was first away in his Firefly, followed by Jim Green (Solo), Malcolm Heron (GP 14, crew Murray Hadden) and Graeme Knox (Laser).
The early excitement quickly sank, however, as the light breeze, generally from the south- east, showed itself to be as fickle as ever, and dropped markedly at times.
David chose to take a wide berth towards the first mark, fearful of stalling towards the south shore. Jim elected for a more direct course and beat David to it, the others following likewise. Throughout the 40-minute race, all sailors suffered from the vagaries of the wind, and David was eventually overtaken by Malcolm and Graeme.
